Miami-Dade County celebrates grand opening of 16 Corner, a newly renovated affordable housing community in Overtown
On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Miami-Dade County and Miami-Dade County District 3 Commissioner Keon Hardemon will join City of Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins, City of Miami Commission Chairwoman and District 5 Commissioner Christine King and City of Miami District 2 Commissioner Damian Pardo to celebrate the grand opening of 16 Corner, a newly renovated affordable housing community in Overtown.
16 Corner was once designated an unsafe structure in 2018. Through the collaborative efforts between Omni Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), The Vagabond Group, Mt. Zion Community Development Corporation (CDC) and Miami-Dade County Housing and Community Development (HCD), the five buildings were restored, preserving homes for residents and the Overtown community who have lived there for generations.
The renovation involved the comprehensive rehabilitation of a 44-unit, multi-family affordable housing development comprised of five buildings. All renovations were successfully completed with all the residents remaining in their homes, ensuring zero displacement throughout construction. The redevelopment preserved and enhanced housing for families at very affordable Average Median Income levels (AMI) levels, supporting long-term affordability and neighborhood stability. Currently, the average rent level serves households at 50 percent AMI. The final building will be completed in January 2026, delivering eight new affordable housing units in the Overtown community.
This project was made possible through $812,000 in Documentary Stamp Surtax funds and $585,562.47 from the Development Inflation Adjustment Fund (DIAF) program provided by Miami-Dade County. These funds provided financial relief to developers of existing affordable housing projects.
