Mayor Daniella Levine Cava calls on President Trump to support democratic transition in Venezuela
Today, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava sent a letter to President Donald J. Trump urging immediate U.S. action to support a democratic transition in Venezuela and to address the ongoing humanitarian and political crisis impacting millions, including the nation’s largest Venezuelan exile community based in Miami-Dade County.
In her letter, Mayor Levine Cava calls on the United States to formally recognize President Edmundo González and Vice President María Corina Machado as Venezuela’s democratically chosen leaders and to work with international allies to apply coordinated diplomatic pressure on the Maduro regime. She also urges the immediate release of all political prisoners in Venezuela, including five American citizens currently detained, and calls for accountability for human rights abuses and electoral fraud. Additionally, she asks the administration to restore Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelans living in the United States and to release non-criminal detainees so they may reapply for protection.
You can read the letter here.
