Miami-Dade County breaks ground on Liberty Square Phase V and Liberty Square for the Elderly
On February 27, 2026, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Miami-Dade County District 3 Commissioner Keon Hardemon, will participate in the groundbreaking of Liberty Square Phase V and Liberty Square for the Elderly. This event marks the fifth phase of the transformational and intragenerational redevelopment of the historic nine-block, 57-acre Liberty Square public housing community in the Liberty City neighborhood.
Liberty Square Phase V is a mixed-income development featuring 408 family units for extremely low-, very low-, and low-income families. Liberty Square for the Elderly will include 132 units, with rents designated for extremely low- and low-income elderly residents.
Amenities will include luxury vinyl tile floors throughout the residences, high quality wood cabinetry in kitchens and bathrooms, elegant granite countertops, and a washer and dryer in each unit. Phase V will also feature ground-floor retail space restoring the Historical Business Corridor and a community service provider on the ground floor. Liberty Square for the Elderly will have Jessie Trice Community Health System on the ground floor, dedicated solely to serving the elderly residents.
Miami-Dade Housing and Community Development contributed $1 million from the Capital Fund Program (CFP) to support this project.
