MDFR is Hiring for Helicopter Pilots
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) is currently seeking qualified and committed professionals to serve as Helicopter Pilots within our Air Rescue Bureau. This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully during critical incidents while supporting emergency services for the residents and visitors of Miami-Dade County. The Air Rescue Bureau is made up of experienced aviation and public safety professionals focused on delivering reliable, high-quality service from the air. Candidates with the appropriate training, experience, and a strong sense of responsibility are encouraged to apply and be part of a team dedicated to safety, precision and public service.
The Bureau plays an essential role in enhancing emergency response efforts by providing aeromedical transport, search and rescue operations, firefighting support, and tactical assistance. These services support not only MDFR operations but also partner agencies at the local, state and federal levels.
Helicopter operations are a key component of this mission, enabling the rapid transport of critically injured patients to designated Level I Trauma Centers for timely care. Air Rescue crews are also trained in specialized operations, allowing them to deploy personnel and equipment in complex scenarios such as search and rescue missions, wildfire response, and large-scale emergencies.
MDFR is accepting applications for the Helicopter Pilot position through May 13, 2026. Applicants must apply online at MiamiDade.gov/jobs using Job ID: 100418.
Minimum qualifications to apply for the Helicopter Pilot position:
- Must possess a Commercial Pilot Rotorcraft-Helicopter Certificate Rating and Class 2 Medical Certificate.
- Completion of a minimum of 2,000 hours pilot-in-command rotorcraft-helicopter, to include 500 hours rotorcraft-helicopter turbine-engine, 250 hours rotorcraft-helicopter night flight-time and 50 hours rotorcraft-helicopter flight time in the preceding 12 months
- Must obtain a valid State of Florida Firefighter Certification, or State of Florida EMT certification within one year of probation
- Must attain Agusta AW139 type rating within one year of probation and maintain valid rating throughout employment
