Notice of Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Initiative
May is Motorcycle Safety Month
As part of Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz’s ongoing commitment to public safety, the
Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, Motorcycle Units will be conducting specialized high
visibility enforcement to address motorcycle safety violations in Miami-Dade County.
<p class="xmsonormal" style="text-align: justify; background: white;"><u><span style="font-size:

<p class="xmsonormal" style="text-align: justify; background: white;"><span style="font-size:
11.5pt; font-family: Roboto; color: black;">As part of Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz’s
ongoing commitment to public safety, the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, Motorcycle Units
will be conducting specialized high visibility enforcement to address motorcycle safety
violations in Miami-Dade County.</span></p>
<p class="xmsonormal" style="text-align: justify; background: white;"><span style="font-size:
11.5pt; font-family: Roboto; color: black;">Miami-Dade County leads in serious and
fatal motorcyclists’ crashes. In 2025, 1,232 motorcycle crashes were reported
resulting in 60 fatalities. In 2026, Year-To-Date, 440 motorcycles crashes have
been reported resulting in 13 fatalities. Unfortunately, many unlicensed and
untrained riders utilize South Florida's roadways and may have limited knowledge of
the requirements for eye-protection and motorcycle/moped registration. Also,
they may be unaware of numerous other requirements that must be operational and visible
on these vehicles and that lane splitting is not legal in Florida. There is
a clear need for a renewed focus on motorcycle enforcement and education.</span></p>

11.5pt; font-family: Roboto; color: black;">Motorcycle Education Program For Every
Rider offers an online safety course (Road Ready: A Guide to Motorcycle Safety Rules
and Laws in Florida) to help motorcyclists recognize the most common motorcycle-related
violations encountered on Florida roadways. Upon successful completion, you’ll
receive a certificate recognizing your participation in the riding experience.
