New inductees to the Miami-Dade County Women’s Hall of Fame

The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners inducted six outstanding women into the Miami-Dade County Women’s Hall of Fame during a Special Presentation ceremony on June 2 in the County Commission Chambers. The amazing women inducted were Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava; Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz; Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia; Gloria Estefan, singer, songwriter, and performer; Jeanette M. Nunez, President of Florida International University and former Florida Lieutenant Governor; and Madeline Pumariega, President of Miami Dade College.

The Miami-Dade County Women’s Hall of Fame was established in 2021 by the Board of County Commissioners to honor and recognize women who have made significant contributions to the improvement of life for women and for all residents of Miami-Dade County, and to preserve the legacies of important women whose contributions to Miami-Dade County should not be forgotten. The Miami-Dade County Commission for Women is responsible for calling for nominations, reviewing the nominations, and making recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners, who makes the final selections.

Previous inductees include Roxcy Bolton; Mary Brickell; Annie Coleman; Marjory Stoneman Douglas; State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle; Polita Grau; Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek; Arva Moore Parks McCabe; M. Athalie Range; Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen; Julia S. Tuttle; and Congresswoman Frederica Wilson.
