Samantha Choon [email protected] 305-471-1900 Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Arrests Suspect in Hate Crime Investigation The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) Homeland Security Bureau has arrested 19-year-old Amir Ayesh in connection with two battery incidents that occurred in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood in northeast Miami-Dade County. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) Homeland Security Bureau has arrested 19-year-old Amir Ayesh in connection with two battery incidents that occurred in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood in northeast Miami-Dade County.   On May 9, 2026, two separate victims reported being sprayed with an unknown liquid by an individual driving a black vehicle. Both incidents occurred within minutes of each other in the area of NE 10 Avenue and NE 171 Street. Deputies responding to the incidents obtained a vehicle description, and subsequent investigative efforts led detectives to identify Amir Ayesh as the suspect.   Through investigative means, Homeland Security Bureau detectives were able to establish probable cause linking Mr. Ayesh to both incidents. Detectives recovered surveillance video showing the suspect using what appeared to be a water gun to spray the victims from his vehicle.   On June 11, 2026, an arrest warrant was signed charging Mr. Ayesh with two counts of Battery with Prejudice, a felony enhancement under Florida law.   On June 18, 2026, Homeland Security Bureau personnel, assisted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Plantation Police Department, located and arrested Mr. Ayesh in Plantation, Florida.   Mr. Ayesh was transported to the Broward County Correctional Center and is awaiting extradition to Miami-Dade County. He faces two felony counts of Battery with Prejudice.   MDSO remains committed to investigating crimes that target individuals based on their race, religion, ethnicity, or other protected characteristics.
