Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces completes playground improvements at three parks
New facilities and features including nature-based playground designs create more engaging park spaces
As part of the continued celebration during Park and Recreation Month, the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department (PROS) announces the completion of new playgrounds and a splash pad at three park locations throughout the county. Sidney Wynn Park at Arcola, San Jacinto Park, and North Trail Park now feature new and enhanced nature-based playgrounds designed to expand recreational experiences for children and families.
The playground replacement project at Sidney Wynn Park at Arcola consisted of replacing the existing playground with new equipment that includes a climbing structure with slides, swing sets, outdoor musical instruments, a net climber, play cube, and bicycle racks. Named after WWII veteran and former parks employee Sidney Wynn, the roughly 4-acre community park, located at 1680 NW 87th Street in District 2, also features an aquatic center, recreation center, baseball and softball fields, and a basketball court. Programming opportunities include afterschool programs, summer camp, and Learn2Swim lessons during the summer months.
The creation of an entirely new playground at San Jacinto Park features a dynamic design with swings and slides, nature-education panels, and a rock-climbing mound. Donated to the County by the Busch, McAulay, and Mitchel families, the 1-acre neighborhood park is located at 4435 SW 15th Terrace in District 6.
The splash pad, playground replacement, and ADA Compliance project at North Trail Park features a brand-new splash pad, replacement of an existing playground, a new basketball court, and other ADA accessibility enhancements. Acquired by the County in 1998, the 15.3-acre community park, located at 780 NW 127th Avenue in District 12, includes an outdoor fitness zone, recreation center, skate ramp, fitness court, tennis and pickleball courts, a soccer field and walking paths. The park also offers after-school programs and year-round camps.
"Our team has gone above and beyond to create immersive experiences that celebrate the natural beauty of these parks while inspiring children to explore, play, and connect with the outdoors," said Christina White, Director of PROS. "This is our mission in action - bringing the community closer to nature through engaging recreational spaces that leave a lasting impact on our youth while fostering a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors."
Other recent playground ribbon cuttings include:
- Rocky Creek Park
- Country Village Park
- North Glade Park
