From Stolen to Recovered: MDSO Arrests Statue Thief
On Saturday, August 8, 2026, at approximately 1:04 p.m., Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) Miami Lakes Municipal District deputies responded to the intersection of NW 154th Street and NW 89th Avenue in reference to a stolen statue.
Detectives from the General Investigations Unit (GIU) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. According to investigators, a bronze statue valued at approximately $8,000.00, was removed by unknown subject(s).
On August 12th, 2026, MDSO detectives developed critical information regarding the whereabouts of the statue. With the assistance of the Robbery Intervention Detail (RID), detectives were able to locate and recover the statue and arrest the defendant as he was attempting to drop it off at another location.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine whether any additional individuals were involved. We are grateful for the community coming together to share information that led to locating the statue.
