Operation Parking Denied
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) Public Corruption Section has arrested several individuals as part of Operation Parking Denied, an investigation into a fraudulent scheme involving the improper issuance of disabled parking permits.
The investigation began after an audit conducted by the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office (MDTCO) identified numerous disabled parking permit applications suspected of being fraudulently obtained. The MDTCO subsequently referred its findings and supporting documentation to MDSO’s Public Corruption Section for further investigation.
Investigators uncovered a scheme in which brokers allegedly facilitated the fraud for personal financial gain by providing applicants with disability certification forms containing forged physician signatures. The forms were then submitted to obtain disabled parking placards.
Detectives confirmed that several physicians whose names appeared on the applications had never treated or certified the individuals listed. Other fraudulent applications were purportedly certified by a physician who passed away in 2025.
Operation Parking Denied culminated in the arrest of 11 individuals, with additional investigative efforts continuing.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office remains committed to combating public corruption, investigating fraudulent activity, and holding accountable those who exploit programs intended to assist individuals with legitimate disabilities.
