Miami-Dade County earns multiple national awards for retirement readiness campaign
Miami-Dade County has earned multiple prestigious national and international awards for its retirement readiness campaign, developed in partnership with MissionSquare. The campaign was designed to enhance employees' financial well-being and help them take meaningful steps toward retirement readiness.
The campaign's impact was recognized with three major industry awards in 2026. It earned a Gold Hermes Creative Award for excellence in marketing and communications, a Gold American Business (Stevie®) Award recognizing outstanding achievement in business communications, and a Communicator Award of Distinction for its effectiveness in reaching and engaging key audiences. Together, these honors highlight the campaign's strength in integrated marketing, financial services communications, and government outreach.
MissionSquare, which has partnered with Miami-Dade County since 1976, worked closely with the County to design and implement a comprehensive, multi-channel campaign focused on increasing participation in the County’s 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan. The initiative emphasized the importance of enrolling in the plan, increasing contribution rates, and designating or updating beneficiaries to help employees better protect their loved ones and strengthen their financial futures.
"This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting the financial well-being of our employees," said Victor Martinez, Assistant Division Director PIOD. "Our partnership with MissionSquare helps ensure that Miami-Dade County employees have the tools, resources, and guidance needed to plan for and achieve long-term financial security."
Through targeted communications, educational materials, and personalized engagement opportunities, the campaign reached employees across all career stages and simplified key financial decisions. Messaging highlighted the real-life impact of beneficiary designations and encouraged employees to take action, while also promoting one-on-one consultations with dedicated Retirement Plans Specialists.
As a result of the campaign, employees completed approximately 300 new enrollments, 250 contribution increases, and 500 beneficiary updates in their plans. The campaign also led to 600 new online account registrations and 300 one-on-one appointments with Retirement Plans Specialists, while email engagement rates significantly exceeded industry benchmarks, reflecting strong employee interest and participation.
"This campaign demonstrates how thoughtful communication and personalized guidance can inspire meaningful action," added Andrew Whiting, chief sales officer at MissionSquare. "By helping employees enroll, increase contributions, and update beneficiary information, Miami-Dade County has taken an important step toward strengthening the long-term financial security of its workforce. We are proud to partner with the County in supporting employees as they plan for their financial futures."
The awards recognize Miami-Dade County’s leadership in delivering effective, results-driven communications that allow employees to make informed decisions and take meaningful steps toward retirement readiness. The County and MissionSquare will continue to provide education, tools, and personalized support designed to help employees make informed financial decisions throughout their careers.
