Indigent Cremation Services

Indigent Cremation Services provide final disposition for those who can't afford a private funeral. The death must have occurred in Miami-Dade County. The decedent does not have to be a resident to qualify. Only basic needs can be accommodated and are considered to be a last resort. We do not provide embalming, viewing or memorial services. Once the decedent has been transferred to a funeral home, the County will provide no further assistance. Families are strongly encouraged to seek other ways to handle final disposition. Below, is a list of providers that offer low cost options. For families wishing to claim the remains, proof of fee payment must be provided. Custom Fees <ul> <li>$475.00 - Families unable to provide proof of receiving current government assistance will be charged a fee equivalent to the per-cremation cost incurred by Miami-Dade County.</li> <li>$375.00 - ICS Storage Fee: Charge to families choosing to make private arrangements after a body has been transported and stored at the ME facility.</li> <li>$100.00 - ICS Shipping Fee Domestic</li> <li>$65.00 - Indigent Cremation Services - Administrative Fee</li> </ul>

Custom Low-Income Family Fee Families providing proof of receiving current government assistance under one or more of the programs listed below will pay: Food Stamps, Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and/or Supplemental Security Income. $150.00 To qualify, the decedent's family: <ul> <li>must be a "legally authorized person" as defined by <a href="http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=0400-0499/0497/Sections/0497.005.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Florida Statue 497.005(39)</a> - definition 43.</li> <li>income should not exceed the <a href="https://aspe.hhs.gov/topics/poverty-economic-mobility/poverty-guidelines#:~:text=2022%20POVERTY%20GUIDELINES%20FOR%20THE%2048%20CONTIGUOUS%20STATES,%20%20%2427%2C750%20%205%20more%20rows%20" target="_blank" rel="noopener">current federal guidelines</a> prescribed for the family's household size by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.</li> </ul>

Custom Pre-approvals To help with dispositions that may occur outside of normal business hours, caregivers can apply for pre-approvals. Adult care facilities may apply for any patient, client or resident who appears to be a candidate for the Indigent Cremation Service. The removal service will be notified when the forms are approved and they will be able to assist with removals during non-business hours.
