Elevator Inspections

Elevators, escalators, moving walks, and other conveying systems are required to have annual inspections. The cities of Miami and Miami Beach have inspectors for systems within those municipalities. All other areas of Miami-Dade fall under the jurisdiction of Miami-Dade County, including its own buildings and property wherever they are located.

The County does not typically provide inspection services to private buildings. However, it does randomly select privately-owned new construction or alteration/modernization permits for inspection.

Privately-owned buildings should have inspections conducted by private firms with licensed Certified Elevator Inspectors.

Emergency repair permits must always be inspected by the County. The County must also handle inspections for code violations or consumer complaints.

The different types of fees for inspections are listed in the current Elevator Safety Fee Schedule.
