Community Affairs Unit

The Community Affairs Unit manages all internal and external communications related to the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department to educate and inform the public, media, and employees. The office aims to provide timely and accurate information through media relations, electronic communications, and publications and acts as the official spokesperson for the agency.

The office is responsible for answering media inquiries, updating and maintaining the agency's social media platforms, producing publications and facilitating tours. This includes producing various content for distribution, such as newsletters, brochures, posters, video content, and writing speeches, news releases and fact sheets. The office also manages the agency's employee recognition ceremony, community outreach events, and jail tours.

The Public Affairs Manager oversees the agency's social media and coordinates community engagement events.

Media Relations

The unit manages crisis communications, solicits media coverage of departmental activities, serves as a liaison to the media, releases information to the public, and facilitates media access to institutions, programs, employees, and offenders pursuant to state law and departmental policies. The unit responds to media requests made under the Florida Public Records Law. Media requests can be sent to [email protected].

The Community Affairs Unit works toward building positive long-term relationships with outside stakeholders and establishments necessary for our growth, success, and commitment to public safety. The unit provides timely and relevant information to educate and inform the public, the news media, agency staff, and stakeholders on the policies, events, operations and successes of the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department.

After-Hours/On-Call Policy

Routine media inquiries and public records requests are handled as expeditiously as possible during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. After hours and on weekends, staff are available on-call for emergencies and significant breaking news events. Members of the media can contact Juan Diasgranados, the public affairs manager, Monday through Friday at 786-263-6109 or by email at [email protected].
