Corrections Reports

The Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department operates the eighth-largest jail system in the country. There are between 4,500 and 5,000 persons incarcerated daily in our detention facilities. These persons are awaiting trial, serving sentences of 364 days or less.

Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation has established a Zero Tolerance for inmate sexual assault and abuse. We make every effort to provide all inmates with a safe, humane and secure environment, free from the threat of sexual assault or abuse and staff sexual misconduct or harassment.

In 2003, Congress passed the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). This act applies to every person incarcerated in a U.S. correctional institution – federal prisons, state prisons, jails, private facilities, lock-ups, juvenile facilities, and immigration detention centers. The law applies to multiple forms of sexual violence, including coercion by staff or other incarcerated people.

In 2014, the U.S. Department of Justice conducted an audit of our jails, which we successfully passed.

MDCR has a zero tolerance policy for all sexual battery/abuse/harassment of those incarcerated within our facilities. If you suspect or were advised of sexual battery/abuse/harassment of anyone incarcerated,  you may report this as a third party by immediately notifying a staff member.  You may also contact the Security and Internal Affairs Bureau at 786-263-6500 or our "See Something, Say Something" Reporting Service at 786-263-6599.
