What is fare capping?
What is fare capping?
- Fare capping guarantees a maximum of $5.65 per day for unlimited rides on Metrorail and Metrobus
- For example, after the third time you tap into the Metrorail faregates, the system will cap your fare for the day at $5.65 (versus $2.25 per trip)
- Fare cost will always cap at $5.65 per day, no matter how many times you ride, including transfers, on Metrorail and/or Metrobus
How to ensure fare capping?
- Always use the same payment device to tap in and out for your trip
- For example: Don’t use your iPhone to tap in, and then tap out with your Apple Watch
- Even though the same bank card may be linked via both devices, you will be charged as if you are beginning a new trip and you lose the benefit of fare capping
