Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee

Kionne McGhee grew up in South Dade public housing and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Howard University and a Juris Doctorate from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law.

He was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2012 for Florida House District 117 and served as the Minority Leader from 2018 to 2020, when he was elected as Miami-Dade County Commissioner for District 9.

On Friday, April 29, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee was inducted as the new 482nd Fighter Wing’s Honorary Commander during the change of command ceremony at the Homestead Air Reserve Base.

Commissioner McGhee explorers measures to improve Transit workers safety

A resolution sponsored by Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee passed during the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, April 5, to explore the impact of COVID-19 on transit employees. Many employees of the County’s transit system have remained on the front lines of this pandemic to provide essential transit services throughout the County, often putting themselves at personal risk.

Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners approves legislation removing the cost burden of communication services for detainees in the Miami-Dade County jails

The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners approved the legislation sponsored by District 9 Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee and co-sponsored by District 5 Commissioner Eileen Higgins, directing the County Mayor or County Mayor’s designee to make all communication services free of charge (or to allocate a period for detainees to make them for free each day), increase access to educational materials, enhance reentry initiatives and access to religious materials for detainees.
