Working with wit and a positive attitude

Allend Pierre
When Allend Pierre started at the Elections Department as a seasonal worker in 2013, he brought his strong work ethic and professional enthusiasm. While he describes himself and shy and reserved, many say it is his quick wit and positive attitude that create an excellent learning environment.

He started working with the Electronic Voter Identification (EVID) machines troubleshooting and maintaining the equipment when it rolled out in 2014. Great at providing instructions on the new equipment, he transitioned to training poll workers for several years. Now he is a Computer Tech II.

"I love to learn and appreciate staying challenged. Dealing with tech means I’m using my skills and my education to its fullest," Allend said.

Allend believes his time conducting training is an incredible way to contribute to the community and the County family. "It was important work training poll workers, many who are also County employees. I stayed committed to making the training interesting and keeping everyone engaged over the years," he said.

"I made some lasting relationships and received professional mentoring and support from others along the way. In particular, I remember how Corey Edwards and Rey Valdes, from HR, shared their training know-how and took time out to show me the ropes."

"We are just like a real family in the County. We work together towards a common goal and support each other to deliver our best for the community."

Allend also gives back to the community in other ways. He ran a business in the Haitian community before joining the County and has strong roots there. His wife works in the banking industry there and together they are working to develop financial literacy.

"We want to educate young and old alike by sharing resources and available tools," he said. "Through word of mouth, we are able to connect and teach others to make better financial decisions that include saving money and planning for future needs. We show them how to avoid the common pitfalls others make with credit, for example. By advocating for our community we build our future together."

"Here at the Elections Department, we work hard and hold each other accountable in service to the community," Allend added. "Our director works to maintain transparency. We always deliver our best. It is work that makes you feel proud."
