Recognized for problem-solving skills

Faddis

Johanna Faddis, senior executive assistant to the director at the Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM), was recognized by a customer for her exceptional problem-solving skills. Raised in Homestead, Johanna has been serving our community for almost thirty years.

After working for the city of Homestead, she joined Miami-Dade County in 2010 to work with Commissioner Lynda Bell, then moved to DSWM in 2013.

“Most people don’t think beyond curbside collection, but DSWM does so much more. There’s home chemical collection, mosquito control, our curbside recycling program and community education programs that protect, preserve and improve our environment and the quality of life in our community,” Johanna said. “It is challenging work serving our neighbors. But worthwhile!”

“When I’m helping someone over the phone, I think about how I would want my mom to be treated. The person on the line deserves my attention and to feel comfortable with the information I am providing to them,” she added.

Mario Medina, a Miami-Dade County resident, had been experiencing difficulties with garbage pickup at one of his properties. After reaching out to Johanna, the issue was immediately resolved, and he has since been receiving biweekly service. This customer was extremely grateful for her professionalism and quick resolution, stating that: "Ms. Faddis demonstrated such a high degree of proficiency and professionalism that I have not seen in a long time."

This recognition was well-deserved, as Johanna always uses ‘’professionalism and thoroughness in her work,” according to DSWM Director Michael Fernandez.

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava also expressed her appreciation, saying "Thank you Johanna and DSWM for helping to build trust in our government one customer at a time!"

Passionate about serving others, Johanna also volunteers with Kids and the Power of Work (KAPOW). This mentoring effort requires her to visit schools and provide specific programming.

“It’s such rewarding work,” Johanna said. “I feel most comfortable behind the scenes, but my work with KAPOW puts me out in front of groups eager to hear what I bring to share. I love it!”

Johanna has also been involved with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC) for several years. She and her husband have two daughters and volunteer as parent boosters.

Johanna Faddis impacts our community and helps others thrive on the job and through her volunteer work. DSWM takes pride in delivering excellence every day and appreciates employees like Johanna who go above and beyond to help customers.
