Going the extra mile

Erol Kalendar
Most employees do a good job completing their assignments. But some, like Erol Kalender from Internal Services Department (ISD), really go the extra mile to make sure their customers have everything they need. Just recently, he oversaw the setup for an important event at Stephen P. Clark Center, and he arrived early and began making necessary, last-minute adjustments to make the event a success.

This is not the first time Erol has gone above and beyond to help make an event successful. He is always resourceful, easy to reach, professional and easy going, even in stressful situations.

On October 2004, Erol Kalender joined the County as a building management assistant in the ISD. Often commended for his professionalism, problem solving skills and excellent customer service, he is shy and reserved about receiving compliments.

A native of Turkey, he takes pride in providing excellent service to everyone he encounters. His role involves interacting with constituents visiting the Stephen P. Clark Center, as well as County employees across all departments who visit or have requests concerning the facility. Whether he is handling calls and e-mails from tenants related to maintenance issues with the building, activating access cards for the floors and gym, reserving meeting rooms or helping departments organize events and exhibitions, Erol delivers excellent customer service for everyone.

“I love being a public servant and helping Miami-Dade County residents when they come to Government Center,” Erol said. “Often times, I am able to provide assistance during difficult moments. People come through Government Center and drop their wallets, driver’s licenses and passports. I use social media and Google search to find the owner and return their property. It makes me happy to return the documents and put their minds at ease.”

“I’m fortunate that my department gives me all the tools and support I need,” Erol added. “My accomplishments always come with good teamwork. I’m glad that I have good team at ISD.”

Daniel Borges, ISD assistant director, has worked with Erol for five years, “Erol is someone who gets things done and is a valued member of the ISD team.”

Erol’s immediate supervisor Travier Carson, ISD building manager, said he takes great pride and care in all aspects of his work and strives to succeed for the benefit of his customers. “Erol is known for his altruistic nature, his willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need and his high standard of excellence,” Travier added.

When he is not at work, Erol can be found exploring Florida’s parks and visiting museums. He also loves to travel.
