Passionate about technology

Matthew Laracuente

Matthew Laracuente built his first computer when he was 14 years old. His love of technology and the incredible support of his parents led him to Miami Lakes Educational Center, a magnet school.

His education brought him to the County almost ten years ago when he was 19. Today he is a member of the telephony operations division at the Information Technology Department (ITD).

“I work with a great group here. They teach me so much,” Matthew said. “I think my background in computer networking helps me contribute to team projects. We are making a difference on how people communicate.”

Matthew also is passionate about the community. His teacher and mentor, Marlon Vernon, enlists him back every year to Miami Lakes Educational Center as a mentor and judge for the Capstone Projects required by seniors.

“I remember my experience in having to build an enterprise network when I was in high school,” Matthew shared. “It is still the same project, but the technology is always changing and the challenges are significant. Being there for these exceptional students is so rewarding.” “It’s impressive to see what they come up with too. Keeping these super bright young people level-headed throughout the project and supporting their creativity truly fuels me.”

“When I started my career, I was not aware of the public sector and the importance of giving back. So I also bring that to the students. I want them to know about our County and working here.”

Matthew is proud to be part of the County family. He is particularly excited with the opportunity to grow at ITD.

“We are always working on new projects and upgrading the infrastructure communication systems for various County departments,” he said. “Our goal is to provide collaboration solutions that will enhance the way the County communicates. These challenges reaffirm that I am at a good place to grow my experience and develop greater expertise.”
