Building a safer future

The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department's (WASD) Safety, Risk Management and Employee Development Division (SRMEDD) celebrated the recent completion of its first ever 30-hour OSHA General Industry (OSHA 30) Training, marking a major step toward enhancing workplace safety and professional development. This landmark program delivered entirely in-house by WASD's OSHA authorized instructors, represents a significant move forward in fostering a culture of safety across the department.
The first cohort of 12 dedicated employees volunteered to participate, with 11 successfully completing the rigorous five-day training. The course covered critical safety topics such as hazardous materials, industrial hygiene, machine guarding, bloodborne pathogens and fall protection. Each participant demonstrated a strong commitment to improving workplace safety and took a crucial step toward becoming a safety advocate in their role.
The program’s success highlights the expertise and collaboration within the Training & Development Section. From course delivery by instructors Nila Williams, Jennifer Roden, Diamond Taylor, Ric Leach and Victoria Owens, to the essential logistical support provided by Renee Clarke and Elizabeth Moss, every team member played a key role in creating a seamless and impactful learning experience.
In recognition of their hard work and commitment to safety, the graduates were celebrated during a special ceremony. SRMEDD Chief LaKeisha Brown applauded their efforts and encouraged them to use their newly gained knowledge to enhance workplace safety practices. Each graduate will also receive their official OSHA 30 card in the coming weeks, further solidifying their achievement.
This initiative underscores WASD's commitment to investing in its employees, ensuring a safer workplace and supporting professional growth. The success of this program sets the stage for future opportunities to strengthen safety practices across the County, including expanded training sessions and a continued focus on employee development.
Congratulations to the inaugural OSHA 30 graduates and the T&D Section for this outstanding achievement!
