Emergency response highlights officer’s heroism

It is with the utmost respect and appreciation that the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department recognizes Officer Anicia Davis for her exemplary performance and heroic actions during a medical emergency on April 16, 2025, while assigned to Unit M3B3.
During her shift, Officer Davis heard a loud bang coming from the dayroom area. Without hesitation, she responded to the scene, where she discovered an unresponsive inmate lying on the floor with visible bleeding from the back of his head. In that critical moment, Officer Davis demonstrated exceptional composure and professionalism. She immediately called a medical emergency and alerted her Shift Commander, Sergeant Sharon McGhee, instructing her to initiate a 911 call via radio.
Officer Davis quickly assessed the situation and applied direct pressure to the inmate’s head wound in an effort to control the bleeding. Her prompt first aid response was instrumental in stabilizing the inmate while awaiting further assistance. Her coordination with team members—including Staffing Sergeant Herman Lewis, who contacted Fire Rescue via landline—ensured emergency medical services were activated without delay.
Thanks to Officer Davis’s quick thinking, clear communication, and decisive actions, the inmate received timely and appropriate medical care. Her response played a crucial role in preserving his life and preventing further harm.
Officer Davis’s conduct exemplifies the highest standards of integrity, dedication, and compassion. Her actions highlight the importance of vigilance and teamwork in maintaining the safety and well-being of individuals in our custody. She is a model of professionalism under pressure.
