The Inaugural Miami-Dade Mayoral Poetry Commendations was held April 29 in celebration of National Poetry Month and to recognize the important role poetry plays in the community.

This year’s first recipient, O, Miami Poetry Festival, is a beloved local arts institution that has been bringing poetry to the people, building community, and reimagining Miami for the last 10 years.

The second commendation goes to a multi-talented writer, performance artist, and poet, who also happens to be a Miami-Dade Public Library employee, Oscar Fuentes, The Biscayne Poet.
