Miami‑Dade 250 is celebrating America’s Semiquincentennial

Miami‑Dade County has officially launched Miami‑Dade 250, a year‑long initiative commemorating the United States’ 250th anniversary leading up to the Fourth of July. The campaign aims to honor the nation's history while highlighting our county’s unique cultural contributions and diverse communities.
Miami‑Dade 250 honors the region’s deep roots—from early Indigenous inhabitants like the Tequesta, Miccosukee, and Seminole tribes, through settlement milestones and the arrival of the railroad, to succeeding waves of immigration from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela and beyond. The initiative underscores how the county has become a dynamic symbol of democracy, opportunity and resilience.
Year‑Long Programs on Education, Culture, and Civic Engagement
The initiative features a host of activities and partnerships:
- Educational efforts and public events designed to explore the county’s role in broader American history, targeting residents of all ages
- A “Share Your Story” platform invites residents—from students and veterans to artists and families—to contribute personal reflections and historical narratives
- Organizations, schools, cultural institutions, municipalities, and residents can “Share Your Event” to submit activities for inclusion in the official calendar
Advisory Committee Charts Course
A specially formed Miami‑Dade 250: We Are America Celebration Advisory Committee, convened by the Mayor’s Office, will spearhead the planning and execution of county-wide events, educational efforts, public activations, and legacy projects. The committee’s mandate includes aligning local activities with national Semiquincentennial goals and coordinating with state, federal, and community partners.
