Sweetwater residents to begin receiving County solid waste services

Residents of the City of Sweetwater will begin to receive solid waste services from the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM), effective Friday, October 1, 2021.
Residents who live in single-family homes and duplexes will receive full services, as listed immediately following.
A small number of residents will receive limited services, including residential dumpster service (see further below) or automated garbage and recycling collection services only.
Full-service customers (single-family homes and duplexes)
As a full-service customer, you will enjoy a variety of waste collection services including our automated curbside garbage collection service, scheduled bulky waste collection and access to the Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers. Following is more information about the services you will receive as a DSWM customer:
Carts: Green waste carts and blue recycling carts will be delivered to Sweetwater homes from Friday, September 24 through Friday, October 1, 2021. Please secure the carts on your property when not in use. Only use the carts for your waste and recycling collection services; please do not use another container as we will not service it. Please place your old waste and recycling carts at the curb on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 so they can be removed. These carts should be empty. The old carts will be removed Thursday, September 30 and Friday, October 1, 2021.
Curbside Garbage Collection: As an automated curbside garbage customer, DSWM will collect waste from the curbside in front of your home, beginning on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Waste will be collected from your green cart twice a week on your assigned collection days, which are Tuesday and Friday. Please place your green waste cart at your curb on your assigned waste collection days by 7 a.m. to ensure that your cart is serviced.
Curbside Recycling Collection: As an automated curbside recycling customer, your recycling will be collected by the County’s contracted recycling collection vendor for your area, Coastal Recycling, from the curbside in front of your home. Your recycling will be collected from your blue cart every other week on Wednesdays, beginning on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. Please place your blue recycling cart at your curb on your assigned recycling collection day by 7 a.m. to ensure that your cart is serviced. Please find a copy of the recycling calendar for the remainder of the year. The Recycle Right publication includes information on what items can and cannot be placed in your blue recycling cart.
Bulky Waste Pickup: Weekly bulky waste sweeps in the City of Sweetwater have been discontinued. Bulky waste pickups will now have to be scheduled prior to placing items at the curb. Each household is entitled to two bulky waste pickups of up to 25 cubic yards each from January 1st to December 31st of each year. If your bulky waste pile exceeds 25 cubic yards and you choose to combine your pickups, anything beyond 25 cubic yards will exhaust the next available pickup. To schedule a bulky waste pickup, please call 311 or visit our website to request a pickup online.
Trash and Recycling Centers: You also have unlimited access to our Trash and Recycling Centers (TRCs) for disposing of bulky waste and household and yard trash. The TRC located nearest to the City of Sweetwater is the Snapper Creek TRC (2200 SW 117 Avenue). However, you can use any of our 13 TRCs Countywide.
Code Enforcement: DSWM Enforcement Officers will patrol the City of Sweetwater to enforce the provisions of the Solid Waste Management chapter of the Miami-Dade County Code (Chapter 15) and to help keep the city neat and clean. Part of their work involves ensuring that bulky waste piles placed at the curbside are properly scheduled with the DSWM for pickup. Please be aware that an unscheduled bulky waste pile may result in issuance of a notice of violation to the property owner and the potential for financial penalties.

Residential Dumpster Service customers
As a residential dumpster service customer, you will enjoy a variety of waste collection services including our twice-weekly residential dumpster garbage collection service and access to the Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers. Following is more information about the services you will receive as a DSWM customer:
Residential Dumpster Service: Your community will receive twice-weekly residential dumpster garbage collection service, beginning on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Waste will be collected from the residential dumpster twice a week on Tuesday and Friday. Please dispose of your bagged household garbage and trash in the metal dumpsters located in your community. Do not place loose garbage or trash items such as furniture, appliances, or oversized cardboard containers inside or alongside the dumpster. Large bulky items placed inside or outside the container will not be collected. Uncontainerized garbage also creates unsanitary conditions and attracts pests.
Trash and Recycling Centers: As a DSWM customer, you are also granted unlimited use of our Trash and Recycling Centers (TRCs) for disposing of bulky waste and household and yard trash. The TRC located nearest to the City of Sweetwater is the Snapper Creek TRC (2200 SW 117 Avenue). However, you can use any of our 13 TRCs countywide.
Code Enforcement: DSWM Enforcement Officers will patrol the City of Sweetwater to enforce the provisions of the Solid Waste Management chapter of the Miami-Dade County Code (Chapter 15) and keep the city neat and clean.
