Regular mosquito truck spray routes have been revamped for added mosquito protection

Miami-Dade County performs larviciding spray treatments to eliminate mosquito larvae. Truck-mounted equipment is used to apply the organic pesticide Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis).

Data collected by mosquito control’s surveillance program identified necessary changes be made to the existing mosquito truck spray routes and schedules. Sixteen new areas will be receiving regular truck spraying treatments to fight the bite. Among others, some of the areas chosen are Allapattah, Hialeah, North Miami Beach and Pinecrest.

Truck spray treatments are the most frequently-used mosquito mitigation tool by targeting mosquito larvae with the naturally-occurring bacteria Bti. Bti is only toxic to mosquitos and black fly larvae and is an effective and environmentally-friendly way to get the buggers before they can fly.

Truck larviciding is scheduled during the pre-dawn hours. Remember – stay back 100 feet!
