Adopt a shelter pet on Save Charlie Day
Join our County’s lifesaving mission; adopt a shelter pet in honor of Save Charlie Day.
There is a special and incomparable bond between us and our pets. Our County loves our animals, especially our dogs and cats. Each year on Dec. 15, we celebrate Save Charlie Day in Miami-Dade County, a day dedicated to promoting pet adoptions and raising awareness for the importance of the County’s lifesaving mission.
In honor of Save Charlie Day, Animal Services is hosting a special Save Charlie two-day pet adoption event on Saturday, Dec. 14, and Sunday, Dec. 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pet Adoption and Protection Center at 3599 NW 79 Avenue, Doral, FL.
We’re inviting you to experience the love of a shelter pet and join us to pick your new best friend and furry family member. All adoption fees for pets four months and older will be waived for the two days. Adopters are only responsible for the $30 tag fee. Adoption fees for puppies younger than four months are $85 and kittens are $35. All adoptions include the first set of age-appropriate vaccines, microchip, deworming, and spay/neuter surgery.
Established by the Board of County Commissioners in 2021, the Save Charlie Act launched an initiative to highlight our community’s commitment to maintaining a 90 percent or greater save rate, first attained in 2015 and achieved every year since. Sponsored by Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee to underscore the County’s lifesaving goal for shelter animals the Save Charlie Act creates a yearly campaign which highlights the need to protect and care for all animals in our County.
Save Charlie Day is a reminder for all County residents that when you adopt a shelter pet, you help save lives. We urge the community to join our lifesaving mission and make adoption your only option when adding a new four-legged family member to their pack.
The Save Charlie Day initiative is one of numerous lifesaving initiatives and animal-protection measures adopted by the County. The Save Charlie legislation highlights Miami-Dade County’s lifesaving efforts and limits the use of euthanasia except in cases where an animal proves to be a danger to the public with a poor prognosis for rehabilitation or an animal is irremediably suffering from an incurable, painful condition.
