Open Burn Permit

You must fill out an Open Burn Permit Application for all bonfires and movie/entertainment industry productions in Miami-Dade County.

Recreational fires do not require a permit. This includes all the non-commercial burning of materials other than rubbish for pleasure, religious, ceremonial, cooking, or similar purposes in which the fuel burned is not contained in an incinerator, a barbecue grill, or a barbecue pit, and the total fuel area is not exceeding three feet in diameter and two feet in height.

Residential property owners are prohibited from burning residential trash, garbage, construction debris, leaves, cuttings, yard trimmings, tree stumps, plastic, and pallets.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (DACS) Florida Forest Service (FFS) Division regulates the vast majority of open burning in Florida, most of which is associated with agricultural, silvicultural, land clearing, and prescribed fire operations. All open burning conducted under the authority of FFS requires authorization. FFS will only authorize the burning of vegetative debris that was generated at the site of the open burn.
