Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin. Specifically, Title VI provides that "no person in the United States shall, on the grounds of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
The Professional Standards Division (PSD) in Miami-Dade Fire Rescue is responsible for civil rights compliance and monitoring and considers race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability, and limited English proficiency when evaluating and investigating a Clain of Discrimination by any resident or visitor in Miami-Dade County related to an action by MDFR Employees' performance of fire rescue and emergency medical services.
