Hate Crimes

The Miami-Dade Police Department thoroughly investigates all reported hate crime incidents to ensure that the rights guaranteed by state law and the United States Constitution are protected for all citizens. Hate crimes are defined as a committed or attempted act by any person or group against a person or the property of another person or group that in any way evidences prejudice or hatred toward the victim because of his/her personal characteristics, which include race, color, ancestry, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, homeless status, mental or physical disability, or people of advanced age.

We encourage anyone in our community who has been the victim of a possible hate crime, regardless of the nature or type of incident, to come forward. Report the crime or incident, and to work with us to bring the perpetrators to justice. Crime data is provided for Miami-Dade Police Department patrol areas only; crime data does not include the individual cities with their own police departments within Miami-Dade County.
