No. There is no cost. This is a completely free and public event.
No, however, it is encouraged. This assists to speed up the registration process on the day of the event. You may pre-register up to 24 hours before the event.
No. You may report your loved one missing at any time as long as they meet the missing person criteria. Please note: some agencies may decline to take your report if it is felt that the individual’s right to privacy supercedes the circumstances and nature of the investigation.
Yes. If the circumstances qualify, you may make a missing person report. You will be directed to the agency that serves the area where the missing person was last seen. In cases where a person has been missing for less than 6 months, we ask that it be reported to the appropriate agency, at their station, rather than this event.
Blood relatives, those related by marriage, and friends (this does not include landlords or employers, unless foul-play is suspected). Blood relatives are encouraged to attend so they may submit DNA samples, which helps identify deceased individuals.
DNA samples are collected by swabbing the inside of the cheek of a closely-related blood relative (i.e. parent, sibling, grandparent, 1st or 2nd cousin, aunt/uncle, niece/nephew). It can be done easily within a few minutes. Submitting DNA is completely voluntary. The sample is entered into a national database specifically to match with unidentified persons and is not used for any other purpose. This process has successfully helped identify thousands of persons.
To assist the investigative process, we ask that you bring:
Photographs and identifying documents (passports, driver’s license, birth certificates)
Identifying characteristics (clothing description, height, weight, hair color and style, scars, tattoos, etc.)
Medical and Dental Information (doctor and/or dentist name and address, medical documents, dental records)
Police Chaplins and Victim Advocates will be on hand to help provide emotional support
Fingerprints will be taken of your child and placed on a card that you will take home with you. There is a space for you to add a photograph. It is recommended that you update your child’s photograph annually.
