Personal Use of Social Media

We understand that social media can be a fun and rewarding way to share your life and opinions with family, friends and co-workers. However, your personal use of social media also presents certain risks and carries with it certain responsibilities.
As a County employee, you are required to reflect well on the County government by acting in a positive and responsible manner in your social media activities at all times.

Inappropriate postings or communication on social media that include discriminatory remarks, harassment, bullying, threats of violence or similar inappropriate or unlawful conduct constitutes conduct unbecoming a public employee. These actions, committed on or off duty, may subject you to disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Examples of this type of conduct might include offensive posts that disparage someone or contribute to a hostile work environment on the basis of race, national origin, age, sex, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression or any other status protected by law or County policy.
