Haulover Park

Swimming areas are lifeguarded year-round and up-to-date weather and surf conditions are provided. There is also a world-renowned clothing optional beach section that is family oriented and staffed by well-trained volunteers who provide information about beach etiquette.

Concessions are also available for food and drinks, beach chair and umbrella rentals. Picnic areas with tables and grills can be found throughout the park on a first-come, first-served basis or shelters may be reserved in advance. With access to the Atlantic Ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway and Baker's Haulover Cut there are plenty of opportunities for fishing both on and off-shore.

Tip: During the summer season and on holiday weekends, peak visitation is on Sundays between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Make sure to plan ahead to avoid traffic and possible parking lot closures.

Clothing Optional Beach

Located on the northern one-third of the beach between lifeguard towers #12 and #16, this family-friendly portion of the beach has been listed as one of the best in the nation to swim and sun-bathe without clothing, featuring beach chair and umbrella rentals, a food and beverage concession and showers conveniently located right on the beach.

Restrooms are also located nearby. Friendly beach ambassadors are available to greet visitors and provide information regarding the do's and don'ts. Look for them wearing the green safari hats. Parking is available in the North Lot, which can be accessed through the Haulover Marine Center's boat ramps entrance, or Lot #1. Use pedestrian tunnel #4 or #5.

No flotation devices are allowed on our beaches. We want everyone to enjoy our waters. Following this park rule helps to keep everyone safe. It also helps us to be good stewards of the environment as well as protect our natural areas. Chapter 26 of the Code of Miami-Dade, Rule 16 states: ''No person, minor or adult, shall enter or be in water at any bathing area wearing, carrying, pushing or towing any flotation device.

Hours

Bill Bird Marina office hours are open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office phone number is 305-947-3525.

Boat ramps and boat ramp parking lots are open 24 hours. The entrance may close on weekends and holidays due to capacity.

Boat Launch and Parking Rates

Weekdays: $7 for cars, $20 for boat trailers, plus tax
Fridays through Sundays and holidays: $10 for cars, $30 for boat trailers, plus tax

Marina Description

Nestled in Haulover Beach Park between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, Bill Bird Marina is minutes away from spectacular fishing. It is home to the largest charter/drift fishing fleet in South Florida.

The marina features 152 gated wet slips, accommodating vessels from 35 feet to 120 feet. Each slip provides access to electricity and water. The dock master building offers marina patrons a laundry room with washers and dryers, ice and restrooms with showers.

In addition the marina features a dive boat, fuel dock, pump-out station, bait & tackle stores, boat launching ramps, dry storage, boat and jet-ski rentals, and boat repairs.

Traveling to Marina by Boat

Located on the east side of the ICW at St. Mile 1079. From the north, leave ICW Marker "5" to port and you will see the marina on your port side. Stay close to the shore and docks as you approach the marina since there is a sandbar between the ICW and the Haulover Inlet Channel.

Activity Description

Bill Bird Marina features a variety of charter fishing boats that offer half-day, full-day or night fishing trips. Many of the operators require advanced reservations but some offer walk-in customers. Free parking is available with your paid reservation.

Picnic Shelters

Advanced reservations can be made for the use of picnic shelters located throughout the park. There are two medium-sized shelters with four picnic tables and a barbeque grill each located near the bayside of the park that can accommodate a maximum of 40 people. These shelters are located on the west side of Collins Avenue and can be accessed through parking lot #1.

There are also two large-sized shelters with six picnic tables and a barbeque grill each located on the east side of Collins Avenue facing the beach and can be accessed through parking lot #1 and lot #2. Shelters do not have electricity or running water.

• $224 plus tax for large shelters

Multi-Purpose Room

The Bill Bird Marina offers an interior space with a maximum capacity of 52 people for meetings, corporate events, baby showers, bridal showers or wedding receptions. Folding tables and chairs are provided. The room includes a wet bar with mini fridge.

The room is available to rent seven days a week:

• from March through November, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at a rate of $401 plus tax
• from November through March, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at a rate of $347 plus tax

Bark Park

The Bark Park is open from 8 a.m. to sunset seven days a week and located near the south picnic area. It features an enclosure for small dogs less than 35 pounds and one for large dogs more than 35 pounds.

Amenities include shade trees, picnic tables, drinking fountains for both dogs and their companions, doggie waste bag dispensers, waste containers, and plenty of open grassy space for you and your pet to play catch or run around freely without a leash.

Entrance to the Bark Park is through parking lot #3 located on the west side of Collins Avenue if traveling southbound, or through parking lot #4 located on the east side of Collins Avenue if traveling northbound.

The cost is $2 per vehicle. The dog must be in the vehicle.

Beach Access for Dogs

Beach access for dogs is available daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the designated beach area between lifeguard tower #2 and #3 only.

Dogs are welcome with their companion on the portion of the beach directly across from the Bark Park and accessible through parking lots #3 and #4. Dogs must be on a leash at all times except within the designated beach area.

Bicycle Rentals

Electribike Miami offers standard and electric bicycle rentals from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Hourly rentals are available for a ride around the park and surrounding areas. Daily and weekly rentals are available with delivery and pick-up locations outside of the park. 

They are located in the south picnic area, adjacent to the bark park, in Lot #4.

Fishing

Fishing spots are available in designated areas along Baker’s Haulover Cut and along the shoreline of the Intracoastal Waterway on the bayside. Must have valid fishing license. Fishing is not allowed in swimming areas or adjacent to marina facilities. Please refer to posted signs.

Food Trucks Tuesdays

Join us every Tuesday night from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Bill Bird Marina for food and fun under the stars. Our food truck roundup features an assortment of foods and treats offered by local food truck vendors along with music and entertainment for the whole family. Parking is free; pets (except for service animals) and glass containers are prohibited.

Kite Flying

Recognized as one of the best places for people to fly kites in South Florida, the open space and ocean breezes of Haulover Beach Park make it the ideal location for flying kites.

Skyward Kites has been in operation for over 20 years and boasts the largest selection of kites, windsocks and wind spinners in Miami, from $5 and up in all shapes and sizes, from diamonds and deltas to Para-foils and box varieties. They can also create a custom kite according to your desired specifications.

With the addition of a state-of-the-art, solar-powered concession trailer in 2009, designed and custom-built by owner Dan Ward, the kite shop now also has ice-cream treats and cold drinks available for purchase. Plan your next birthday party or event with kite-flying fun. Open from 10 a.m. to sunset, seven days a week (closed on Christmas Day) and located on the southeast corner of the Bill Bird Marina parking lot.

Skateboarding

Bring your boards or bikes and ride the state-of-the-art skate park and pump track. The skate park features ledges, a roof top bank, a china bank, stairs and a taco. Or, jump on the world-class Velosolutions asphalt pump track for a unique wave-like ride. Any set of wheels can ride this snake run like park with endless lines. For everyone's safety, follow all posted rules. Open daily from sunrise to sunset for pedestrians and cyclists; parking lot opens at 8 a.m. and closes 30 minutes before sunset on weekdays and 1 hour before sunset on weekends and holidays. Parking in this area is limited and closes when capacity has been reached. Admission is free but parking fees apply. A signed waiver is required for kids under 18.

Haulover Park is one of two public beach parks operated by Miami-Dade County. The 177-acre park with 1.4 miles of beach front was acquired starting as early as 1935 and was then Dade County’s fourth major park.

The land that the park now sits on previously contained a lighthouse restaurant, a trailer and small refreshment stand, and charter boat piers. The Dade County Commission procured the beachfront property in 1940 and was then called North Beach.

Construction began on beach facilities in 1941, halted soon afterward due to the onset of World War II. Development of the property resumed in 1945 with the park was renamed Haulover Park in January 1947, opening to the public the following year in late 1948.
