Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) continues historic Capital Improvement Program (CIP) execution on critical infrastructure projects
During FY24-25, WASD completed 163 CIP-specific construction projects and surpassed the landmark $600 million mark for the second consecutive year delivering essential upgrades to water and sewer infrastructure.
The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) has achieved another significant milestone, surpassing the $600 million threshold in Capital Improvement Program (CIP) construction for the second consecutive year. During fiscal year 2024–2025, the department executed $603 million in essential infrastructure upgrades, demonstrating the department’s commitment to supporting the public’s health and providing high quality water and reliable wastewater service by futureproofing and modernizing its infrastructure system.
Under the leadership, and with the support, of Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, the department has successfully accelerated many critical water and wastewater infrastructure projects as part of the department’s $8.97 billion multi-year CIP.
“As your water warrior, I am a champion for ensuring reliable access to clean water as both a public health necessity and as an economic driver that supports a thriving community,” said Mayor Levine Cava. “This is the largest water infrastructure program in Florida’s history. These accomplishments mean critical future-proofing of our County’s infrastructure so residents benefit from reliable, high-quality water and wastewater services, with nearly $2.8 billion in CIP investments I prioritized during my administration to build a stronger future for Miami-Dade because Water is Life.”
As Miami-Dade County continues to grow, WASD is preparing the water and sewer systems for the future by incorporating climate-ready designs, expanding capacity, reinforcing vulnerable infrastructure, and adopting innovative approaches to ensure safe, reliable service for decades to come.
WASD Director Jay J. Fink, P.E., credits the department’s success to both Mayor Levine Cava’s leadership and the dedication of the County’s water professionals, whose work has propelled the CIP to unprecedented levels.
“Mayor Cava’s unwavering support has been instrumental to our success,” said Director Fink. “Her commitment displays her deep understanding that safeguarding our most essential resource, water, requires sustained investment. We are proud of this year’s accomplishments, which represent a significant milestone for our department, and our dedicated water professionals are already focused on what comes next.
“We remain committed to building on this progress and continuing to deliver high-quality, reliable services for generations to come.”
It is the priority of the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department to provide safe, reliable service to its customers. For additional information about Department services and programs, visit the WASD website
