Miami-Dade County Mayor Levine Cava releases Climate Action Strategy progress report on Earth Day
Miami-Dade County Continues to Advance Climate Action Strategy goals in 2023
On April 22, in celebration of Earth Day, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava released the County’s 2023 Climate Action Strategy Progress Report at The CLEO Institute’s inaugural 5k race to raise awareness about climate issues.
The Miami-Dade County Climate Action Strategy provides a full framework of actions to meet the ambitious goal of cutting emissions to net-zero by 2050. Under Mayor Levine Cava’s leadership, the County is embracing a green economy and propelling the community into a renaissance of innovation.
“Following the record-breaking rainstorms and flooding last week, it is more evident than ever that Miami-Dade is ground zero for climate change and that the effects are being felt by our community here and now,” said Mayor Levine Cava. “My administration is laser-focused on implementing the big changes needed to meet our goals, and I am proud of the progress we’ve made. We are building a future-ready, resilient community by reimagining our transportation system, making our buildings energy efficient, transitioning to renewable energy, and working toward zero waste in our County operations."
The Climate Action Strategy progress report spotlights actions being made by both Miami-Dade County and the community. Actions highlighted include improvements in the transportation and buildings sector as well as the implementation of projects that reduce the County’s water consumption and waste. The County’s official greenhouse gas inventory will be published later this year.
“Climate education plays a pivotal role in building Miami-Dade county’s climate resilience and sustainable economy. Through our education and collaborative efforts with the county, we are empowering and preparing individuals, businesses, and communities to take steps toward reducing their carbon warming emissions, adapting to the impacts of climate change and building a Future Ready Miami-Dade County” said Yoca Arditi-Rocha, Executive Director, The CLEO Institute. “Together, we are making a difference for generations to come and this update is a testament of that!”
Miami-Dade County is an international leader in climate action and at the forefront of climate solutions. Achieving the goals set forth in the Climate Action Strategy will require building on the County’s extensive framework of collaboration to include everyone in the community to build a Future Ready Miami-Dade.
