          MIAMI-DADE ( April 24, 2023 )–

Today, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, gathered with Housing Committee Chairwoman Commissioner Marleine Bastien, Commissioner Keon Hardemon, Commissioner Kevin Cabrera, and Commissioner Roberto Gonzalez, to formally launch the County’s new Mortgage Relief Program, in collaboration with the the Community Development and Community Action and Human Services Department and the Department of Public Housing and Community Development. This program, created to assist homeowners struggling to pay their mortgage and/or utility bills, is one of many county initiatives and programs implemented in the last year since Mayor Levine Cava declared a housing affordability crisis in April of 2022.

“Since we declared an affordability crisis a year ago, we have been working tirelessly to offer real solutions to our residents and ensure everyone can access safe, stable housing they can afford. From emergency rental assistance, to investing over $500 million in housing solutions and more than doubling our housing development goal, my administration has brought everything to the table to support our residents,” said County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “This Mortgage Relief Program could be a lifeline for thousands of families struggling to pay higher expenses. I am very proud of the collaboration from our County Commission and the teamwork across our departments to make this a reality and help so many.”

Through the new Mortgage Relief Program, applicants can receive up to $1,500 per household towards late mortgage payments, late homeowner association (HOA) fees, homeowners' insurance, and/or late utility assistance.

          •     Statement from the homeowner and condominium association showing balance of fees
          •     Past due utility bills (electric or water)

$25 million in total was allocated to the Mortgage Relief Program under the FY2022-23 budget – as part of the $85 million HOMES Plan – and the program can serve up to 15,000 eligible families.

Residents can apply online at www.miamidade.gov/socialservices, by calling Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida at 786-237-2118 or by visiting one of the 12 Community Resource Center locations.
