Miami-Dade Parks kicks off Park and Recreation Month with a free 4th of July celebration at Tropical Park
On Thursday, July 4, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava will join Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III, Board of County Commissioners Vice-Chairman, District 10 Commissioner Anthony Rodriguez, and Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces to kick off national Park and Recreation Month with the County’s fourth annual 4th of July celebration at Tropical Park.
“I am filled with immense pride and joy this 4th of July as we gather to not only celebrate our nation's independence but also honor Park and Recreation Month. Our parks are the heart of our community, where families bond, friendships flourish, and memories are made. I encourage everyone to come out to celebrate the spirit of freedom, the beauty of nature, and the unity of our community.”
Miami-Dade County Parks will host this free 4th of July event in partnership with Univision that will feature musical performances by acts such as Motiff and Friends, Nesty, Jonathan Moly, Jimmy Rodriguez, Carlos Nevarez, Daniela Darcourt, and Ronald Borjas. The event will also feature a flyboard aqua show on the lake; and, for the grand finale, a red, white, and blue drone light show followed by fireworks that will light up the night. The celebration will include a fun zone, live music, and food trucks. Miami-Dade County residents and visitors are invited to bring family and friends, a blanket, lawn chairs, and plenty of water to this Independence Day celebration.
"Together, let’s celebrate our nation’s independence at Tropical Park, we honor the principles of freedom, democracy, and unity that define us. This Fourth of July, let it be a moment of reflection, gratitude, and a renewed pledge to uphold the values that make our community and country a beacon of hope. Come and celebrate with us as we reflect on our shared values and strengthen our bonds," said Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert III, District 1 Commissioner.
Miami-Dade Transit will provide supplemental bus services for Route 40 to accommodate travel to and from Tropical Park throughout the event. These buses will be pre-positioned along the route to provide rides to attendees as needed. Attendees are also encouraged to use ride-sharing apps and/or arrive early as parking will be limited.
“Tropical Park is a favored park in our District 10 community, filled with outstanding recreational, cultural, and natural amenities,” said Vice Chairman Anthony Rodriguez. This event is the highlight of the summer season! I invite all our District 10 families to dress in your patriotic gear and come by to take advantage of the free activities.”
“Parks bring our community together, and this event really has something to offer all who come out to celebrate our nation’s independence as well as Park’s Month, highlighting the value of parks to our community,” said Parks Director Maria Nardi. “We're excited to host this year's festivity, where families can enjoy a day filled with fun, food, music, a drone show and fireworks in one of our county's most beautiful parks."
In keeping with that spirit of public service, this year’s Park and Recreation Month theme, “Where You Belong,” acknowledges the critical role the nation’s hundreds of thousands of employees play in ensuring parks are for everyone.
