This week, a delegation from the regional government cabinet of the Canary Islands is visiting Miami-Dade County to strengthen ties and explore new partnerships as part of their participation in the <a href="https://www.seatradecruiseevents.com/global/en/home.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2024 Seatrade Cruise Global</a>. The key objective of their visit is to promote tourism and trade between the Canary Islands and Miami-Dade County. The Miami-Dade County International Trade Consortium (ITC) coordinated meetings for the visiting delegation on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the Stephen P. Clark Center with the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, Latin Chamber of Commerce of the United States (CAMACOL), World Travel Expo Miami, and ITC Board Member Julian Linares. The delegates discussed developing business ties in tourism and facilitating trade partnerships. The business development meetings successfully forged new relationships, identified investment opportunities, and paved the way for future collaboration between the regions. Miami-Dade County is structured into 13 districts. The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners is the governing body of unincorporated Miami-Dade County, and has broad, regional powers to establish policies for services that transcend city boundaries. The government provides major metropolitan services countywide and city-type services for residents of the unincorporated areas. The Commissioners set policies and establish laws for the community. Commissioners are chosen in non-partisan, single-district elections. Miami-Dade County is structured into 13 districts. Residents choose only from among candidates running in the district in which they live. Commissioners serve four-year staggered terms, with elections scheduled every two years. The ITC office works closely with Miami-International Airport (MIA) and PortMiami, as well as other partners including foreign diplomatic and trade offices, bi-national chambers of commerce, economic development organizations and local, state and federal government agencies. The office, the consortium and its 14 member organizations and 16 appointees work together to advise County elected officials on international trade issues and help advance the County’s trade efforts worldwide.
