Financial assistance now available for eligible property owners to convert from septic systems to centralized sewer system
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava is pleased to announce that the Septic-to-Sewer Financial Assistance Program is now accepting applications to provide financial assistance to eligible residents as they transition from septic tank systems to the County’s centralized sanitary sewer system.
“Connecting residences to the County’s Water and Sewer Department’s Connect 2 Protect program helps to prevent harmful pathogens from entering our waterways from failing septic tanks,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “These funds will assist residents to abandon their septic tanks, which will protect the public’s health, our natural resources including drinking water and surface waters such as Biscayne Bay.”
The program is first-come, first-served and provides financial grants or affordable financing options such as zero-percent interest and low interest loans for residential homeowners for homesteaded properties that abut existing sanitary sewer infrastructure. The various financial assistance options would be awarded to eligible homeowners based on their corresponding household income levels. The loans can be approved for up to $15,000 with repayment periods of up to seven years. Loans must be repaid if the property is sold, transferred, or ceases to maintain its Homestead Exemption status within five years.
“The Connect2Protect initiative allows the Water and Sewer Department to continue delivering high-quality, reliable wastewater services to our community by reducing the contamination risks of vulnerable and failing septic systems,” said Water and Sewer Director Roy Coley. “We understand the transition to our County’s centralized sewer system includes an economic impact to our residents, and this new program provides an additional option to Miami-Dade County’s property owners as they partner with our Department towards developing a more sustainable and healthier Miami-Dade.”
