Miami-Dade Adopts FY 2025–26 Budget; Chairman Anthony Rodriguez Votes Against Fee Hikes, Advocates for Residents
At the conclusion of the final budget hearing for Fiscal Year 2025–2026, Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners Chairman Anthony Rodriguez announced the successful passage of a balanced and fiscally responsible county budget. While the mayor proposed several fee increases, which were approved by a majority of commissioners, I voted 'NO' because these increases are unfair to impose on our residents, who are already facing significant financial burdens.
Chairman Rodriguez led efforts throughout the budget process to ensure that the County’s financial plan reflects both discipline and compassion.
“The initial budget proposal simply didn’t align with the financial realities our residents are facing,” said Chairman Rodriguez. “Families across Miami-Dade County are already stretched thin and asking them to shoulder more of the burden was both unsustainable and unacceptable solution. That’s why we took deliberate action to reshape this budget, so it protects working families, preserves essential services, and avoids placing additional financial pressure on our community.”
In a key fiscal achievement, Chairman Rodriguez identified and secured over $29 million in available funds from the offices of the Tax Collector and the Supervisor of Elections. These dollars were reallocated to prevent new parking fees at county parks proposed in earlier budget drafts, reinforcing the Chairman’s commitment to financial stewardship without passing new costs onto the public. In addition, the Chairman passed a motion to remove all proposed transit fare increases on Metrorail, Metrobus, and STS, ensuring that residents continue to have access to affordable public transportation.
The adopted budget maintains investments in critical areas such as public safety, infrastructure, and neighborhood services, while preserving affordability for Miami-Dade families and small businesses.
“We took a thoughtful and strategic approach, redirecting resources where they’re needed most,” Chairman Rodriguez said. “This is a clear demonstration of what we can accomplish when we prioritize smart, community-focused governance.”
Chairman Rodriguez thanked his fellow Commissioners, County staff, and residents for their active involvement throughout the budget process. He emphasized that the adopted budget is more than just numbers on a page, it reflects the Board’s shared commitment to fairness, transparency, and strong community-focused governance.
