Miami-Dade County Mayor responds to Florida CFO’s press conference
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava released the following statement in response to today’s press conference hosted by Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia:
“Since I took office as Mayor, I’ve made sure that Miami‑Dade is one of the most transparent and fiscally responsible local administrations in the nation. From the beginning, my administration has found ways to put money back in taxpayers’ pockets and keep costs low for our families — while investing in your priorities.
“We lowered the tax rate two years in a row to the lowest rate since 1982 and kept it there. I’m proud that every year of my administration we have passed our budget with strong bipartisan support, while continuing to absorb state fund reductions and unfunded mandates. We have also built an even more effective, efficient government to save you money. We streamlined budgets, merged departments, cut executive salaries, made it easier than ever to start or grow a business, and modernized our systems - like permitting - to reduce bureaucracy.
“We have grown our investment in law enforcement and public safety every year. In fact, the Sheriff’s Office received a historic $1.15 billion this year. At the same time we are leading with fiscal stewardship and spending tax dollars wisely on the priorities that matter most to our residents, like housing, transit, economic opportunity, and infrastructure — such as modernizing our airport, launching a new rapid bus service, and upgrading our stormwater management system to protect our homes and businesses from flooding, resulting in cheaper flood insurance for households.
“We welcome continued communication and engagement with the state and our community, as we continue to run an efficient government that delivers on your priorities while maximizing every single taxpayer dollar.”
