Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis Commends Miami-Dade Fire Rescue for Strong Response Time Performance
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis is commending Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) for its comprehensive report in response to Resolution R-985-25, legislation she sponsored directing the County to evaluate emergency response times countywide and develop strategies for improvement.
“Public safety is non negotiable,” said Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis. “We will continue making smart investments to keep our families protected.”
The report confirms that MDFR has maintained average response times under eight minutes for life-threatening and structure fire incidents within the Urban Development Boundary, despite a 21 percent increase in calls over the last five years. Strategic investments — including 20 new service units and two additional stations — have helped mitigate growth-related pressures.
“This is exactly why I brought this resolution forward, to ensure we are measuring performance and planning ahead,” said Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis. “Our residents expect fast, reliable emergency response. This report confirms that Miami-Dade Fire Rescue continues to deliver.”
MDFR is planning 10 additional units and two new stations this fiscal year, while pursuing site acquisition in 11 priority areas to close service gaps. The department’s performance has also been independently validated through accreditation by the Center for Public Safety Excellence and its ISO Class 1/1X rating from the Insurance Services Office.
As budget season approaches, Commissioner Milian Orbis has requested a follow-up report within 120 days to provide updated data, particularly as new station planning and site acquisitions move forward.
