Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis honors TSA and CBP officers at MIA during appreciation luncheon
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis joined federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Miami International Airport for an appreciation luncheon recognizing their service during the recent federal government shutdown.
The luncheon, sponsored by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami and hosted by the Consul General of Taiwan, was held to thank the men and women who continued reporting to work every day without pay to keep Miami International Airport operating safely and efficiently.
Commissioner Milian Orbis had the honor of personally serving food to TSA and CBP officers during the luncheon as a gesture of appreciation for their dedication and sacrifice.
“These officers showed up every single day and did their jobs without knowing when their next paycheck would come. That level of commitment matters, and it deserves to be recognized,” said Commissioner Milian Orbis. “Miami International Airport is one of the most important economic engines in our county, and it only works because of the people on the ground who keep it running and keep us secure.”
Throughout the shutdown, TSA and CBP personnel maintained critical operations at MIA, ensuring the safety of travelers and the continuity of airport functions despite the financial uncertainty facing their families.
Commissioner Milian Orbis also expressed her appreciation to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami and the Consul General of Taiwan for organizing the luncheon and standing in support of frontline federal workers during a difficult time.
“This was a meaningful way to recognize the sacrifices these workers made for our community,” she added. “We will continue to stand behind them and make sure their contributions are acknowledged.”
