Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis Applauds DOJ and President Trump Following Action Against Raúl Castro
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis attended today’s event at Freedom Tower recognizing the United States Department of Justice’s effort to bring former Cuban dictator Raúl Castro to justice for the 1996 Brothers to the Rescue murders.
“Today, every communist regime thug, dictator, and oppressor around the world should understand something clearly: time does not erase murder, and the United States will not forget its victims. Justice for Raúl Castro is not just about the past. It is a warning to every enemy of freedom that accountability can find you no matter how long it takes and no matter where you hide.”
Yesterday, Commissioner Milian Orbis successfully brought a Miami-Dade County resolution to formally express the County’s strong support for bringing Castro to justice, with unanimous support from her colleagues.
“Justice has been delayed for decades. It is long overdue,” she said. “This sends a clear message that Miami-Dade County stands for freedom and stands with the Cuban people, not their oppressors.”
Commissioner Milian Orbis also thanked President Donald J. Trump, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, United States Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for taking decisive action against the Cuban regime.
“This is a historic moment for Cuban Americans and exile families who have waited decades for justice,” said Commissioner Milian Orbis. “Miami-Dade County fully supports the United States Department of Justice as it moves forward with charges against Raúl Castro for the murder of innocent men on a humanitarian mission.”
The announcement comes as the Cuban exile community prepares to recognize May 20, Cuban Independence Day, a date that holds deep significance for Miami-Dade’s Cuban American community.
