Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins Announces Major Infrastructure Improvement Providing Traffic Relief: Completion of the 87th Avenue Bridge
After years of advocacy, community engagement, and collaboration with residents, Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the 87th Avenue Bridge Project. This long-awaited infrastructure investment fulfills a campaign commitment and delivers a vital new connection for the South Dade community.
“This bridge is the result of a promise made and a promise kept,” said Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins. “From the day I first ran for office, I committed to making this project a priority because I heard directly from residents who had waited far too long for this much-needed traffic relief. Residents demanded leadership, and together we never lost sight of the goal. The completion of this project is proof that when communities organize, civic engagement remains strong, and elected officials listen and follow through, meaningful quality of life improvements can be accomplished. This bridge will reduce commute times, increase public safety, and stand as a lasting investment in the future of South Dade.”
For years, residents advocated for improved connectivity between neighborhoods separated by the C-100 Canal. Through public meetings and sustained civic engagement, they made clear the need for a safer, more accessible transportation network. Commissioner Cohen Higgins made the bridge a campaign priority, and after years of planning, legal challenges, and coordination among multiple agencies, that commitment has become a reality.
