          MIAMI-DADE ( July 09, 2026 )–

The Miami-Dade County Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM) is proud to announce a significant milestone in the ongoing protection of one of South Florida’s most threatened natural treasures. The Environmentally Endangered Lands (EEL) Program has received a generous donation of $925,000 from a coalition of dedicated partner organizations committed to safeguarding the region’s critically imperiled Pine Rocklands.

“This extraordinary contribution reflects the power of collaboration and our community’s shared commitment to preserving our county’s unique natural heritage,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “The Pine Rocklands in our EEL preserves need frequent maintenance to keep invasive species from destroying rare and endangered plants and animals. This substantial gift will be dedicated to strengthening our stewardship of this irreplaceable habitat.”

The local nonprofit organizations contributing to this donation included the Center for Biological Diversity, Miami Pine Rocklands Coalition, South Florida Wildlands Association and Tropical Audubon Society. Their contribution will enable DERM’s EEL Program to enhance restoration, expand conservation management, and implement essential prescribed fire cycles that are vital to the health and survival of one of the most critically imperiled ecosystems in the world.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to our partner organizations for their leadership, advocacy, and generous support,” said Loren Parra, DERM Director and Chief Resilience Officer. “Their collaboration is essential to our mission to protect and restore the natural resources that make Miami-Dade a true paradise. By caring for these environmental treasures, we ensure our community can enjoy them today while strengthening our legacy for future generations.”
