Chairman Anthony Rodriguez Delivers Lasting Tributes to Fallen Law Enforcement Heroes

Miami-Dade County Chairman Anthony Rodriguez is leading an effort to permanently honor two fallen South Florida law enforcement officers whose lives were dedicated to protecting and serving their communities.

The Board of County Commissioners approved measures sponsored by Chairman Rodriguez to honor Miami Beach Police Sergeant David Cajuso and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Deputy Devin Matthew Jaramillo by naming public roadways in their memory. The Board also approved naming the football field at Devon Aire Park the “Deputy Sheriff Devin Matthew Jaramillo Field.”

“Those who put on the uniform and make the ultimate sacrifice for our community deserve to be remembered not only today, but for generations to come,” said Chairman Anthony Rodriguez. “Sergeant Cajuso and Deputy Jaramillo dedicated their lives to protecting others, and their families, colleagues and communities will forever carry their legacy. These memorials ensure that their names and their service will remain a lasting part of the communities they loved and served.”

Sergeant David Cajuso, a 10-year veteran of the Miami Beach Police Department, was tragically killed in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 75 in October 2025 at the age of 33. He was remembered for his dedication to public safety, compassion and commitment to building trust between law enforcement and the community. The Board approved the designation of a portion of Southwest 84th Street as “Sergeant David Cajuso Way.”

Deputy Devin Matthew Jaramillo, 27, was tragically killed in the line of duty on November 7, 2025. A Miami native who grew up in the Kendall area, Deputy Jaramillo followed his father into law enforcement and ultimately returned home to serve the community that raised him. The Board approved naming a portion of Southwest 132nd Avenue “Deputy Sheriff Devin Matthew Jaramillo Way” and the football field at Devon Aire Park, where he played as a child, the “Deputy Sheriff Devin Matthew Jaramillo Field.”

“Devin grew up here, played on that field, and ultimately returned home to protect the very community that shaped him,” Chairman Rodriguez said. “Naming these places in his honor, and honoring Sergeant Cajuso in the same way, gives future generations an opportunity to know their stories and remember the sacrifices they made.”
