Commissioner Hardemon to Host Street Naming Celebration in Honor of Dr. Frederick Morley
Commissioner Keon Hardemon, in partnership with the F&J Morley Foundation, will host a street naming ceremony in honor of Dr. Frederick A. Morley on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 9:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Charles R. Drew K-8 Center, located at 1775 NW 60th Street, Miami, FL 33142.
Dr. Frederick Morley was an educator and musician who began his educational career as a fifth-grade teacher at Poinciana Elementary, where he established the county’s first elementary marching band. In 1973, he became principal of Charles R. Drew Elementary School, where he served for 30 years and elevated the elementary school with his bold and innovative leadership. His accomplishments include leading the school’s transformation into the first elementary performing arts magnet school, introducing Saturday School, and establishing a Career Lab, a schoolwide uniform policy, a full-service health school, and a recording studio. Dr. Morley passed away on February 19, 2025.
Commissioner Hardemon sponsored legislation to co-designate the portion of NW 60th Street from NW 22nd Avenue to NW 17th Avenue as “Frederick Morley Way” in recognition of Dr. Morley’s decades of commitment to education, service, and community.
To RSVP, contact the Morley Family at (305) 335-9051 or visit here.
