Hike and Night Programming

Bring the family to explore the fascinating past of Arch Creek Park on the child-friendly adventure! Our naturalist guides will take you on a hike through the tropical hardwood hammock where you will learn about the Tequesta tribe. After the hike, take a hands-on approach to discovery with a demonstration at a mock excavation site and learn the true value of historical and archaeological sites.

Join our naturalist as we set the record straight on bats, a group of fantastic but misunderstood mammals. The program will start with a short presentation inside on the importance of and common misconceptions on bats, followed by a night hike were we will use special acoustic devices to listen for bat calls that we may not be able to hear with the human ear.

Grab your binoculars and a to-go coffee mug and head to Castellow Hammock Park to learn the basics of birding at one of Miami-Dade County's secret birding hotspots. Open to beginners and experts alike, we'll seek out the colorful feathered visitors who migrate into South Florida every fall and winter while sipping on coffee provided by the park. Children's binoculars are available for our younger guests.

Join Miami EcoAdventure naturalist as we search for some of South Florida's native butterflies that visit or call Castellow Hammock Park their home. On this leisurely hike, participants walk amongst to blooming flowers in Castellow Hammock's bird and butterfly garden, identifying and cataloging numerous butterfly species with the help of an interpretive guide.

Take a night-time stroll into some of the various natural ecosystems of South Florida alongside a naturalist guide to discover the marvelous nocturnal life of the park at dusk. Experience the sights and sounds of a variety of birds, raccoons, night spiders and many more nocturnal natives.

Enjoy an evening of discovery in the world of owls! Start the night with a presentation all about these nocturnal birds before entering the nature trails with a guide to search for them. Observe the difference of the park after dark and encounter other nocturnal natives such as raccoons and night spiders.

Learn about the mysteries of the night and see what lurks around the park when the lights go out at Greynolds Park. Naturalists will guide you through the park nature trails in search of its nocturnal residents including eastern screech owls, raccoons, night spiders and more.

Once the site of Orchid Jungle, the Hattie Bauer Preserve is home to rare plant life and historic structures. In this guided tour through an extensive, forested trail system you'll learn about Orchid Jungle in its heyday, what caused its downfall, & the efforts the parks department is making to restore it. This program meets at the Hattie Bauer Preserve front gates; please bring closed-toe shoes, insect repellant, sun coverage, & plenty of drinking water.

Let’s get creative at Arch Creek Park! Take a guided hike back in time through the tropical hardwood hammock where you will learn about the resourceful Tequesta tribe. After the hike, learn historical techniques and get hands-on to create your own twine and pottery. Fashion your twine into a bracelet and design a unique pot to take home!

From the salt sea shore of Crandon Park, to the rich soils of the Redland you will encounter countless flora and funa in these guided tours of our diverse ecosystems. Nature Center Trail Walks offered at all five nature centers.

A stunning example of the critically endangered Pine Rockland habitat, Navy Wells is certainly worth a visit. The biodiversity of this fire-dependent habitat always leaves something new to see on this walking tour through the 350-acre preserve. After our walk, we will stop just next door to the local fruit stand Robert Is Here where their famous smoothies and milkshakes are available for purchase.

Enjoy a morning of discovery in the world of native and exotic creatures that call the park home. Starts with a hike through the endless nature trails and search for these creatures with the help of a naturalist. After the hike you will get to meet some of the nature center residents and a chance to interact with Shakira, the resident Red Tail Boa. Program will follow social distancing & sanitization guidelines outline by CDC, local and state officials. Wildlife encounter and nature hike is for all ages.
